Genius of our local government officials raising taxes (on our food)

Ah, the genius of our local government officials. They seem to have learned nothing from history.

Chesterfield and Henrico Counties wish to implement a "meals tax." Ostensibly this is to make up for revenue shortfalls in other areas and to help pay for schools. It's always about the children, isn't it? Of course we are told that if this tax is not implemented that the real estate tax or some other tax will necessarily have to be increased. As with the federal and state governments at NO TIME IS CUTTING SPENDING EVEN MENTIONED! No, we cannot possibly find ways to cut government spending or weed out inefficiency, that would require too much actual work on someones part.

Just as the state, thank you Republican governor Bob McDonnell, had to increase our taxes to pay for roads. This, even though we already have taxes in place for that purpose and those funds are to be used specifically for roads. Yet, once again, there was no money in the fund, so we had to raise taxes. But back to the meals tax. OK, you super-geniuses you, see if this makes sense to you:

The tax is implemented and the cost is passed on to the consumer (Just study economics 101 for a brief while and you'll understand). Because jobs and money are tight right now disposable income is at a premium. People decide to stop eating out at local restaurants as often as before. This means the restaurant's business suffers. They do not bring in as much money, thus the taxes our elected representatives hoped to raise are far less than expected. Because business is slow the restaurants have to lay people off, as they are unable to meet their overhead, which includes salaries and benefits. These laid off workers now must either a) find a new job in a poor job market or b) go on the government dole. If they choose B guess who pays for that. Guess what is going to have to happen to bring in the money to pay for the "benefits" for these new welfare recipients. That's right - Another new tax increase! Of course we could always borrow the money from China or just print up some more.

What a bunch of incompetent, bungling, non-thinking imbeciles!

OBAMA BYPASSING CONGRESS TO ENACT NEW TAXES

Surprised?

Obama-shrugObama is sidestepping Congress once again. This time, the unconstitutional act is in an effort to raise $6 Billion in new taxes to put WiFi in public schools across America. Rather than waste his time with the Constitution and Congress, Obama is going straight to the FCC to lobby for the new taxes. The new tax will apply to every American who uses a cellphone.

All Our Republican Virginia Congressmen and our Senators Mark Warner and Jim Webb Voted for Spy Drones

What if you were told that Congress had just passed a bill called the FAA Reauthorization Act. And slipped into the bill was a law that orders the Federal Aviation Administration to develop regulations for testing and licensing of commercial drones by the year 2015. Also you were told that Obama is expected to sign it into law.

Would you believe it? Would you think I was talking about the plot in a novel about a bad dystopian society? The short lived cult classic Dark Angel had such flying spy drones called hover drones that spied on the people.

Or would you believe this was reality? Impossible you might say, this is America. Why would our Congress and President allow flying spy machines to keep a watch on us.

Well I am afraid to say its reality. Both houses of the Us Congress just passed this bill, its expected to land on the President's desk and he is expected to sign it into law.

Our leaders are supposed to protect our liberties and privacy. That's what the leaders of the Democrats and Republicans tell us. The Republicans say they are against big government, but what else are Spy Drones.

Republicans voted overwhelmingly for this, with eight voting against it, one who is Presidential Candidate Ron Paul (see the record of his vote here). And the Democrats overwhelmingly voted against it with two voting for it.

   Ayes: 223 (Democrat: 2Republican: 221)
  Nays: 196 (Democrat: 185Republican: 11)
  Abstained: 13 (Democrat: 5Republican: 8)

Voting Liberty Held Hostage by the Virginia Republican Party?

Should the Republican Party require those voting in the Republican Primary to sign
a loyalty pledge that says they will vote for the eventual nominee in the General Election?

Or is it against one's liberty for the Party to force them to sign a pledge
that would force them to vote for a person who against their values?

Even top Virginia Republicans want this rescinded:

McDonnell, Bolling want 'loyalty oath' rescinded

McDonnell signs Virginia Healthcare Freedom Act

JR Hoeft | Mar 24, 2010 |

Gov. Bob McDonnell reminded everyone today who enacts law in the Commonwealth of Virginia when he ceremonially signed Virginia’s Health Care Freedom Act, setting up a challenge between the commonwealth and the Federal government.
Flanked by Sen. Steve Martin and Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, and also joined by Sen. Jill Vogel, Sen. Fred Quayle and Del. Bob Marshall, the governor signed the four pieces of legislation that preserve the choice of all Virginians from having to pay for health care they don’t need, want, or can’t afford.
“We all agree that we must expand access to quality health care and reduce costs for all Virginians. However, that should not be accomplished through an unprecedented federal mandate on individuals that we believe violates the U.S. Constitution,” said McDonnell. “The Virginia Healthcare Freedom Act sets as the policy of the Commonwealth that no individual, with several specific exceptions, can be required to purchase health insurance coverage. The Act was passed with bipartisan support, in sharp contrast to the narrow straight line partisan vote that enacted the federal health care bill on Sunday night. Virginia’s Healthcare Freedom Act received the votes of leading Democratic Senators, as well as the Democratic House Minority Leader. It was an important step to sign this bipartisan legislation today.”
This sets the legal standing for Virginia’s challenge to the Healthcare Reform Act recently signed into law by the President.
“The traditional role of the attorney general is to defend Virginia’s laws,” said Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccineilli. “It is now my job to vigorously defend this law from the federal government’s overreach of the Constitution and its attempted encroachment on the rights of Virginians. That is my mandate, and that is my promise to our citizens.”
