Sen. Chuck Schumer slams Tea Party as being racist, plans to 'poison' movement

Sen. Chuck Schumer has been a vocal critic of the Tea Party, but today he took his criticism to new heights by claiming that conservatives are against illegal immigration because they are against "changing demographics."

ImmigrationSchumer was quoted at Talking Points Memo as declaring that "changing demographics" explains "why so many on the right vehemently opposed the Senate immigration bill..."

Ironically, Schumer was seeking to convince Tea Party groups that "super-wealthy Tea Party donors have hijacked the grassroots movement," while he was speaking at the George Soros-funded Center For American Progress.

Speaking of George Soros, the Examiner reported earlier this month that in an Op Ed, the left-wing billionaire recently offered some damning praise to the GOP establishment for 'fighting back' against the Tea Party, who he referred to as a 'coalition of religious and market fundamentalists.'"

Before his speech, Alexander Bolton of the Hill noted today that Schumer

"has a plan to poison the Tea Party by driving a wedge between its rich funders and its blue-collar rank and file." [emphasis added]

Part of Schumer's prepared speech stated,

"The fundamental weakness in the Tea Party machine is the stark difference between what the leaders of the Tea Party elite, plutocrats like the Koch Brothers want and what the average grassroots Tea Party follower wants."

While Schumer was chiding the Tea Party for allowing wealthy donors to infiltrate their movement, he missed the irony of that fact that he speaking at an organization that has been funded by a left-wing wealthy donor who has made his hatred for the Tea Party clear.
